Dr. Heather Villarruel is a clinical assistant professor and associate director of teacher preparation at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (MLFTC). As a teacher educator, she has specialized in the preparation of educators for grades PK-12. As an advocate for school systems and educators, she looks for new ways for schools and educational systems to be more suited to learners and educators alike. Dr.Villarruel strives to develop a sustainable workforce of educators who can work as a member of collaborative teams with distributed expertise to achieve deeper and personalized learning for all students. Dr. Villarruel previously worked as a teacher leader on the school's leadership team, overseeing professional development, coaching, and support, and as a special education teacher. As a special education teacher in the Deer Valley Unified School District, Dr. Villarruel was named teacher of the year.
