Dr. Martin is the Middle Level Program Director and an Instructor in the Department of Counseling, Leadership, and Educational Studies at Winthrop University. She supervises middle level interns and teaches Strategies for Establishing an Inclusive Classroom Climate, Strategies and Assessments for the Middle Level Learner, and Reflective Teaching in Middle Level Education. Dr. Martin earned her Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of South Carolina and her research interests include multicultural education, adolescent development and culturally responsive teaching in middle level education and she serves as the President-elect of the South Carolina Professors of Middle Level Education. Dr. Martin began her teaching career as a middle school math teacher in Sumter, SC and has been in the educational field for over 32 years. After completing her master’s degree in Education Administration, she became a lead teacher, assistant principal, and then served 16 years as a middle school principal. She began teaching and supervising at Winthrop when she moved to Rock Hill in the summer of 2015. On a personal note, Dr. Martin enjoys playing golf, paddle boarding, and spending time with her four adult children. She is married to Brent Martin and resides in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
