Dr. Dennis Dotterer is an assistant professor at Winthrop University’s College of Education in their Educational Leadership Program. Prior to serving in this role, he served in multiple state director roles within the South Carolina Department of Education, including human capital management, teacher effectiveness, as well as school transformation and Palmetto Priority director, primarily focusing on teacher, leader, and school quality. Prior to the state department, he served as an elementary and middle school teacher and principal. He holds degrees in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction for the Gifted and Talented, Administration and Supervision and Educational Leadership.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dotterer has served schools at all levels, with a significant focus on title 1 and hard to staff schools. His primary areas of research and K-12 level support focus on school improvement through effective leadership by supporting teacher efficacy, moving from evaluation to supervision through individualized coaching, video coaching and PLC designed professional development, and PBL design and implementation to support equity in the classroom.
