Dr. Laurie Mullen is Professor and Dean of the College of Education at Towson University. Her research interests are in the areas of teacher education, curriculum, university-school partnerships, and educational technologies for teaching and learning. Mullen earned her B.S. in secondary education and Spanish from Southern Illinois University in 1983. She was awarded an M.Ed. and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Illinois in 1994 and 1997, respectively. Mullen served for 18 years at Ball State as professor and associate dean of the Teachers College. While there, she was a co-principal investigator on federal technology grants totaling over $3 million dollars and has served as a consultant to schools and to higher education institutions nationally on issues related to educational technology implementation.
Since coming to the College of Education at Towson University in 2015, she has led the following initiatives: a new strategic plan including a first-ever strategic plan Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; a 25% increase of underrepresented students in educator preparation; an inaugural undergraduate research initiative; advancement of practice-based pedagogies with college faculty; school partnerships model redesign; and a new Office of Research and Evaluation.
She has served on the boards of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, the Maryland Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and is currently President of the Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities.
