Dr. Britine Perkins has served in every aspect of public education here in Texas and California as an Advanced Placement teacher and reader, academic coordinator of advanced academics, Texas State Board of Education curriculum writer, Texas State Board of Education test assessment team member, and as a public-school administrator at the secondary level. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education and Interim Director of Clinical and Field Experiences at Prairie View A&M University, working to prepare culturally proficient teachers for our state and nation's public schools. She earned her B.S. in Social Studies Education from Texas Wesleyan University, her M.Ed. from Texas Christian University, and her Doctorate in Education from the University of North Texas. She currently serves on the advocacy committee for the Texas Council of Social Studies and holds several national and state committee positions. She has served as a nationally elected Academic Assembly board member for The College Board, a state board member of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, and the former Education Chair of the Arlington TX NAACP, where she also ran for the Arlington ISD School Board. Her research focuses on increasing excellent teachers, especially minority teachers, for challenging urban schools. Her passion is to advocate and serve all students' educational needs, but predominantly minority students, for whom education is the key to success.
