Karen Rehder serves as the the University of Maryland Elementary Education Program Co-Coordinator and Professional Development School Coordinator for the Elementary MCert Program. As Program Co-Coordinator she leads the Elementary Education Program and manages the professional program for MCert Elementary and undergraduate elementary students ensuring all program and licensure requirements are met. As Professional Development School Coordinator she oversees four semesters of the graduate professional program including the yearlong internship while teaching corresponding courses and maintaining relationships and training for university supervisors, school partners and mentor teachers. Research and professional interests include providing professional development for pre-service and in-service teachers that supports their work in creating classroom community and implementing research-based teaching methodologies and instructional approaches. Karen joined the University of Maryland in 1999 as a university supervisor.
Karen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and elementary certification at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Karen earned her Masters of Science degree in Education specializing in Administration and Supervision. Karen worked as an elementary classroom teacher with Baltimore County Public Schools and served as a mentor teacher to pre-service teachers from Howard University, Morgan State University and Towson University.
