Dr. Erika Mein is Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Education at the University of Texas at El Paso, and Professor of Literacy/Biliteracy Education in the Department of Teacher Education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Reading/Writing/Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania. In her role as Associate Dean since 2019, she has helped spearhead innovation in UTEP’s teacher preparation program, primarily through the co-design, implementation, and scaling of UTEP’s paid, year-long teaching residency, called the Miner Teacher Residency, in close partnership with seven school districts in the El Paso region. These programmatic transformations have received technical assistance and financial support from partners including the El Paso Community Foundation, the Charles Butt Foundation, US PREP, and the U.S. Department of Education. Her research focuses primarily on disciplinary literacies and Latinx student success and has been published in journals such as Action in Teacher Education, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, and Journal of Hispanic Higher Education.
