Amanda O. Maher, PhD is an assistant professor in the Department of History and Philosophy at Eastern Michigan University where she teaches social studies methods for pre-service secondary and elementary students. Her scholarly agenda and pedagogical interests seek to empower the civic identities of aspiring educators and to cultivate their democratic methodical approaches. In 2022, Dr. Maher was named the Michael G. Morris Endowed Co-Chair for her collaborative work in civic dialogue, cultivating civic connections, and inquiry and civic action in teacher preparation. Prior to her transition into higher education, Dr. Maher acquired years of experience teaching social studies and coordinating literacy support in K-12 classrooms both in Michigan and internationally, and she has also collaborated on several elementary and secondary curriculum development projects.
