Kenneth Hayes, Ed.D. is the Program Coordinator for the Principal Preparation Program at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He has been in education for 30 years and has served 19 of those years as a secondary principal. Now as faculty at the University of Northern Iowa, he prepares educational leaders for principalship, leadership, and educational reform. In addition, Dr. Hayes coordinates the Director of Special Education endorsement program.
Dr. Hayes graduated from the University of Northern Iowa (2006) with an Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction. His research (dissertation) was on special education exiting practices entitled, “IEP team decision-making process in the reintegration of special education students: A qualitative analysis of exiting decisions.” Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Hayes earned a Master’s degree in PK-12 Administration from The University of Iowa (2000). From Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Education. After earning his doctorate degree, Dr. Hayes went to Drake University (2010) to pick up the superintendent/AEA/special education director endorsements in a specialist degree program.
Areas of interest include: Educational leadership, teacher evaluation, special education, culture and climate, mental health, organizational management, and mentoring. Dr. Hayes has been married to Patricia for 32 years and has two adult children, Cornelia and Nathanael. His hobbies include: sports, cards, traveling, fine arts, writing, and camping. He strongly believes that we should “always strive to be better tomorrow than we are today!”
