Deborah Boyd’s experience in education includes teaching and leadership spanning prekindergarten through doctoral levels. Currently professor and dean emerita of the Lipscomb University College of Education, she served as dean of the college and executive director for the Ayers Institute for Learning and Innovation from 2015 until 2021, after serving as associate dean (2008-2015). Prior to her appointments at Lipscomb, Boyd held statewide leadership positions for the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (P-16 initiatives) and the Tennessee Department of Education (curriculum and instruction). Her current areas of interest and expertise include teacher preparation and effectiveness, international education, educational leadership, adult education, and professional learning and coaching, topics on which she has presented nationally and internationally. Boyd has recently served on selected advisory boards and committees, including Tennessee Learning Forward, the State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), Nashville Teacher Residency, and the TN Ed Prep Impact Coalition, as well as being a Deans for Impact fellow.
