Dr. Sharon L. Hixon taught first and second grade in Baltimore City Schools. She taught development studies reading courses at Frederick Community College in Frederick, Maryland, and at Dalton State College in Dalton, Georgia. She has taught a variety of reading and ESOL methods courses for the School of Education at DSC. She has been serving as the Dean of the School of Education at DSC since 2014. She has been collaborating with Dr. Sartin, PI for the 1.2 million dollar GENERATE Department of Education SEED grant, for more than ten years. Dr. Hixon has received multiple state grants to conduct literacy work in the community, and she has collaborated to secure a NSF Noyce grant, where she serves as Co-PI. She has served as president of GACTE, and she is currently serving as Co-Chair of the External Relations Committee for GACTE. Her presentations and her current publications (in press) often highlight the work she had conducted with various partners.
