Dr. Sara Hoeve spent over a decade as a secondary English teacher before earning her Ph.D. in English Education at Western Michigan University. After leaving the secondary classroom, she first taught at Calvin University, followed by a visiting appointment at Purdue University- West Lafayette. She joined the faculty of Hope College In 2020. In addition to her teaching at Hope College, she serves as the Director of Student Teaching and Teacher Certification for the college. Hoeve was recently elected vice-president of the Michigan Council of Teachers of English (MCTE). Beginning on July 1, 2023, she will serve as vice president, president-elect, president, and then past-president for MCTE. In her most recent research, Hoeve investigated censorship efforts in Ottawa County. She interviewed teachers and administrators to understand the impact on local educators of the current efforts to ban books.
