Markita Warren, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Teacher Education at Cleveland State University where she teaches Middle School Methodology and Literacy courses. Her research focuses on culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogies, the linguistic needs of African American students, diversifying K-12 curriculum, and the experiences of Black or urban students in educational settings.
Prior to higher education, Dr. Warren served as a practitioner, coach, and leader in multiple school districts and non-profit educational organizations for 15 years. She was recognized as a Top 100 RESA Educator by the Ohio Department of Education and received an Excellence in Teaching award from Cleveland State University. In addition to course instruction, she currently serves as a Coordinator of the Middle Childhood Program, Co-Director of the Urban Network for Innovation in Teacher Education (UNITE) Residency Program, and Research Associate for EnGendered Research Collaborative.
