Dr. Annie Insana is the Director of Clinical Practice and Assistant Professor of Education at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to joining Belmont University, Annie served as the the Director of Literacy for Educator Preparation and Induction Programs and the Senior Director of Educator Preparation at the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) from 2017-2022. Annie also served as the Assistant Director of Teacher Education and instructor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the part-time Director of the Illinois New Teacher Collaborative, an organization committed to ensuring high quality induction and mentoring services to novice teachers from 2015-2017.
Annie is a former elementary school teacher who taught third and fifth grade in Del Mar, California and Smyrna, Tennessee. Her interests include new teacher development, high-quality induction supports, strong partnership engagement between teacher preparation, schools, and the community, and program evaluation. Annie holds a BA in English and a MA in Education from the University of California, Davis and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis on teacher education, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Annie is also Nationally Board Certified in Reading/Language Arts for early and middle grades.
