Director of Educator Pipeline
National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET)
Dr. Ruhi Khan is the Director of Educator Pipeline at the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET), where she leads the development of the new teacher induction service and expands educator preparation and content materials. Her role also includes support for partners through professional development, training and coaching to enhance educator effectiveness that leads to student and educator growth. Dr. Khan’s previous role at NIET included supporting K12 school and district leaders as a thought partner to elevate systems, structures and processes that lead to student success.
For over a decade, Dr. Khan has led professional development through educational training, workshops, seminars and coaching. She has been an educator for over 25 years and has experience in both K12 and higher education. Her experience includes working as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, clinical assistant professor, university supervisor and director for international educator leadership projects. In addition to teacher preparation, her higher education experience includes managing and serving as the Project Director and Principal Investigator to administer two $3 million international professional development research grants for 105 international educators. In this capacity, she was able to engage in program implementation, evaluation, reporting and budgeting to ensure project outcomes and timelines were met. Furthermore, this led her to design professional learning opportunities that heightened cultural proficiency and leveraged the power of diversity and culture to support global projects.
Throughout her career, Dr. Khan has developed and implemented learning opportunities for students, colleagues, faculty and leaders that were grounded in support for K-12 pedagogy. This includes the creation and implementation of mentor training programs at the faculty and school district levels to ensure participants received high quality coaching and mentoring assistance. Dr. Khan has presented at international, national, and local conferences and has published articles about professional development models, action research, and teacher preparation.
