Catherine Snyder is a professor and the chair of the Department of Education at Clarkson University’s Capital Region Campus. Snyder has her bachelor’s in economics and Chinese from Smith College, an MBA and Master of Arts in Teaching from Union College, and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the State University of New York at Albany. She is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
Snyder researches inquiry-based teaching strategies at the K-12 level. She has co-authored three books on inquiry methods and has presented nationally and internationally on the topic. She is an active member of the National Center for Teacher Residencies and sits on the Board of the Association for Advancing Quality in Teacher Preparation.
Snyder leads a Department that places issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion at the forefront of their work. In particular, she is the principal investigator for the My Brother’s Keeper Teacher Opportunity Corps II Grant, the Black Educators Initiative Grant, and the Schenectady Foundation Grant. She also created the Black Educators Tuition Deferment fund to support Black teacher candidates pursuing their master’s degrees in teaching. Snyder’s graduate students and programming also support the Schenectady-based Rise High program, a Saturday STEM enrichment program for underresourced middle and high school students.
The Clarkson Master of Arts in Teaching program has been recognized nationally for its thirty years of excellence graduating future-ready teachers who serve communities in New York, around the country, and the globe. The program centers around a full-year residency, and boasts a 100% job placement rate for more than six years.
