Jessica Whitelaw: Jessica Whitelaw teaches courses in reading/writing/literacy, literature for children and youth, teacher learning and leadership, and inquiry-based teaching and research. Her research and teaching interests lie at the intersections of collaborative inquiry, critical pedagogy, and teacher learning with a particular interest in the power of storytelling, the imagination, and the arts to inform and transform a critical agenda. She is involved with several collaborative research partnerships with teachers, teacher educators, leaders, and community organizations at The University of Pennsylvania, Mural Arts Philadelphia, and the University of Guadalajara. Prior to coming to Penn, Jessica worked as a literacy teacher and instructional leader and she continues to work with teachers and school leaders in public and independent schools on issues of literacy, equity, and justice. In 2019 she published a book on arts-based literacy and critical practice with high school teachers and youth and has published articles in English Education, The Journal of Language and Literacy in Education, Bookbird, and Learning Landscapes.
