Dr. Cynthia S. Nicholson has spent nearly three decades as an educator in secondary and post-secondary English and Teacher Education.At Norfolk State University (NSU), Dr. Nicholson serves as the Associate Dean for the School of Education. A career educator, she enjoys preparing students to serve in the field of education. Her motto is “We are one NSU” and believes wholeheartedly that we must work together to better serve our students and community.
Dr. Nicholson leads the Secondary Education Advisory Team (SEAT) to maintain curriculum planning and student retention efforts. The collaboration with units outside of the SOE who have teaching licensure programs, include programs in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology and the College of Liberal Arts. This has led to removing barriers for teacher education students to apply for and matriculate through the Teacher Education process leading to licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Dr. Nicholson’s scholarship includes publications in the Virginia Association of Curriculum and Development Journal, Kappa Delta Pi Journal, and the Black Child Journal. Additionally, she serves as President-Elect for the Virginia Council of Teachers of English and the HBCU TAG Chairman for AACTE.
