Associate Professor of Education

Inspired by her work as a classroom teacher, Calli's research interests are largely focused on how teachers can support students to engage in sense making in the classroom. When teachers do this well, all students can be included and feel successful in the content. Most of the work she has done in this area has been around classroom discourse and how teachers can plan for and engage students in discussions based on their own ideas and experiences. In related work, Calli completed a post-doctoral fellowship with ETS where she studied online simulations as practice spaces for preservice teachers to learn to facilitate argumentation-focused discussions in mathematics and science classrooms.
