Principal TA Consultant

Beth Howard-Brown, Ed.D., is a Principal TA Consultant with the American Institutes for Research. Oversees AIR's work with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in assisting educator preparation programs with developing, implementing, and monitoring plans to attract and retain diverse teacher candidates. Additionally, she worked with the Region 9 Comprehensive Center and ISBE to assist the state agency and local school districts with braiding and blending funds to support educators and initiatives. She serves as state and local pursuit lead for the Human Services division at AIR. Furthermore, she provides quality assurance for AIR's comprehensive centers and serves as Chair of AIR's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. Has over 25 years of experience leading and managing local, state, and federal initiatives. Served as director of the Southeast Comprehensive Center, overseeing a 20 million budget and staffing; she managed client relationships with essential leadership and staff of state education agencies throughout the Southeast. The center assisted states with developing, implementing, and monitoring state-level processes and initiatives. Also oversaw SEDL's (merged with AIR on January 1, 2015) partnership with the REL Southeast at Florida State University and led their Georgia Charter School Research Alliance. Dr. Howard-Brown received her Ed.D. in curriculum and instruction and her Ed.S. in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina. She also holds two masters of education, one in education leadership and the other in counselor education. Before coming to AIR, she led a state-wide school improvement effort for South Carolina that monitored and supported districts and schools in meeting state accountability requirements.
