Elizabeth Hodge is a Full Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership. She holds a bachelor of science degree in Hospitality with a minor in Business from Ithaca College, master’s degree in Business and Information Technology from East Carolina University, and doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida. Areas of teaching include finance, leadership, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, human centered design, instructional design, and information technology at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Over the past 27 years, Dr. Hodge has served in a variety of academic administrative and faculty positions. She currently serves as the Research, Innovation, and Operations Director for the North Carolina New Teacher Support Program, which is a comprehensive, university-based induction program offering a research-based curriculum and multiple services designed to increase teacher effectiveness, enhance skills, and reduce attrition among beginning teachers. She previously served as the Assistant Dean for Innovation and Strategic Initiatives for the College of Education where she led strategic planning efforts.
While at ECU, Elizabeth has been awarded the Max Ray Joyner Award for Distance Education, East Carolina University Scholar-Teacher, Collegiate Scholar Teacher Award in Business Education, and East Carolina University Centennial Award for Excellence. She is also a Chancellor’s Leadership Fellow and a Miller School of Entrepreneurship Faculty Fellow. She has numerous publications and presentations focused on instructional design, online learning, and student engagement. She advocates for transformative instructional practices and encourages faculty and students to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to ignite and transform learning.
Outside of the classroom, Elizabeth serves on national, state, and local advisory boards. She provides strategic planning, leadership, and design thinking training. She is an avid inventor who loves big ideas. She enjoys kayaking, painting, reading, fishing, and spending time with her family.
