Director, Black Belt Teacher Corps, TQP Project REACh
University of West Alabama
I came to The University of West Alabama with 33 years of experience in a K-12 public school system. I have a degree in Elementary Education, with additional endorsements in Gifted Education and Reading. I served in many capacities within the districts.
I currently serve as the director of 2 (two) teacher pathway programs at The University of West Alabama, the Black Belt Teacher Corps and TQP Project REACh.
BBTC is a scholarship program providing scholarship awards to junior/senior and Alt. A students pursuing a certification degree in education. Awarded students must teach for three (3) years in an approved school designated as rural, high needs, or within the Black Belt region of Alabama.
BBTC also partners with regional school districts to support CTE teachers and students in Teacher Cadet programs. BBTC provides teacher training, curriculum support, and dual credit scholarships through the Teacher Cadet arm of this program.
Project REACh is a Teacher Quality Partnership grant awarded to UWA. This grant enrolls mid-career changers with a non-educational field degree in UWA’s Alt. A certification degree program. These students serve a year long residency as co-teachers in mentor teachers’ classrooms within our partner schools/districts. All UWA coursework is online. Residents agree to three (3) years of teaching post-certification in the school of residency or a school within the partner district.
