Dr. Jan G. Miller currently serves as the Dean for the College of Education and as the Director of Online Programs at the University of West Alabama (UWA). Under the guidance of Dr. Miller, numerous new programs have been developed and launched at UWA. Most recently, an Ed.D. in Rural Education was launched in August 2018. The Ed.D. in Rural Education was the first in the nation boasting 160 doctoral candidates from across the U.S. Prior to working at UWA, Dr. Miller served as a school leader in a P12 setting for eighteen years. She is also a former teacher of grades K, 1, 3, and 8. She currently serves as a board member for the University Charter School and serves as a board member for New Schools for Alabama, and a board member for Rural Schools Collaborative (RSC). She served as the president of the Alabama Association of Professors of Educational Leadership (AAPEL) in 2014-16. She is a CAEP site reviewer and reviews numerous publications. Her areas of expertise include online education, online course design, grant writing, and instructional leadership.
