Dr. Eden Haywood-Bird is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Studies at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She trained as a classroom teacher and holds Colorado teaching licensure in early childhood and elementary education. After a 12-year career as a classroom teacher, she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University. Dr. Haywood-Bird’s research focuses on pre-service and early-service classroom teachers, specifically exploring the power of teacher identity to influence children’s developing understanding of self. Of particular interest is how identity development intersects to shape power dynamics between teachers and children.
