Dr. Kristine Mickelson has worked as a teacher educator for over 25 years. She holds master’s and PhD degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Mickelson has prepared new and advanced practice educators, in both undergraduate face-to-face and graduate online environments. Her areas of expertise include research design and methods, action/teacher research, teacher learning in multicultural contexts and program review/evaluation.
Over the course of her career, she has served as both lead and co-investigator on over 15 grant projects supported through a combination of federal, state, and local funding. Teacher education, community-based learning, multicultural education, and assessment literacy have been the primary content areas of these grant projects. On each of these projects she has either led or supported program evaluation and assessment. Additionally, Mickelson has authored over 25 in-depth reports and evaluations assessing program and project impact.
In addition to her teaching, research, and service faculty duties, she has presented more than 25 peer-reviewed professional sessions on professional development, multicultural education, program evaluation and assessment, qualitative research methods and organizational mission enhancement; earned 5 professional awards for teaching and leadership excellence; and completed 25+ professional development opportunities to grow in areas such as leadership, fundraising, online teaching, cultural competence, global citizenship, and technology integration. She also served as an academic dean for 8 years.
Mickelson is currently an Associate Professor of Education at Morningside University in Sioux City, IA where she teaches a variety of courses to graduate students in research design/methods and culture and ethics and serves as Action Research Coordinator. Her most current scholarly projects focus on online teaching and learning for initial and advanced practice teachers.
