Associate Professor

Julie Kalnin orients her career around the belief that supporting teacher learning is the path toward equitable student achievement. Over the past twenty years, she has been fortunate to partner with districts and schools to develop a teacher residency, establish professional learning communities, support lesson study, and implement action research networks. At the University of Portland, her work focuses more intensively on teacher preparation. Her current research interests focus on teaching for equity through disciplinary literacy and purposeful uses of formative assessment. With colleagues and university partners, she has been part of the design of developmental teacher performance assessments at UP.
