Dr. Zulmaris Diaz is a Full Professor in the Department of Bilingual and Literacy Studies and the Director of Field Experiences office at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Her research focuses on teacher preparation, specifically in the area of bilingual/dual language education and the development of Latino children’s bi-literacy. She is the lead editor of the book Teaching Content to Latino Bilingual-Dual Language Learners: Maximizing their Learning. The book explores the conditions within which bilingual learners can effectively thrive and excel in U.S. schools. She has also published numerous articles on how to engage bilingual-Spanish dominant children in meaningful educational learning experiences. Dr. Diaz has more than 25 years in the field of bilingual education and teacher preparation.
