Simonie Moore hails from Guyana, South America and is an emerging scholar and dynamic educator in the field of Exceptional Education. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Exceptional Education, Simonie's academic journey has been characterized by a passionate commitment to fostering inclusive and effective learning environments. With a solid foundation in education, including a B.S. in Elementary Education K-6/ESOL, and a Masters in ESE with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Simonie possesses a comprehensive understanding of the diverse needs of exceptional students.
Presently, Simonie's research focus centers on two cutting-edge projects: "Debriefscape" and "Project RAISE." Through these initiatives, she is actively engaged in pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the field of special education, striving to improve the educational landscape for students with exceptionalities and technology innovation. Simonie's research extends to the critical realm of behavior management, where she delves into strategies that not only address behavioral challenges but also honor individual cultural backgrounds. Through her insightful contributions, she has empowered educators to cultivate respectful, empathetic, and supportive classroom environments that amplify student success.
As a fervent believer in the power of teacher preparation, Simonie has actively engaged in programs that equip educators with the tools to navigate culturally diverse classrooms effectively. Her work emphasizes the importance of self-reflection, cultural humility, and the ability to adapt pedagogical methods to meet the diverse needs of learners. Simonie's dedication to enhancing the academic journey of both her peers and future educators is evidenced by her role as an instructor for undergraduate courses in Exceptional Student Education (ESE). Her areas of expertise span a wide range, including Behavior Management, Reading Instruction, Assessment of Exceptional Students, and Curriculum, Theory, & Instructional Strategies for Students with Special Needs. By sharing her knowledge and insights, she empowers aspiring educators with the tools to create inclusive and effective classroom environments.
Her commitment to advancing the field extends beyond the classroom. Simonie is an active member of esteemed organizations such as the Holmes Scholar E-Board, the Florida Council for Exceptional Children (FCEC), and the Volusia Council for Exceptional Children (VCEC). Her dedication to the scholarly community is also reflected in her role as a reviewer for TED (Teacher Education Division) and the Holmes Scholar program. Additionally, Simonie's dedication to advancing reading instruction has yielded impactful methodologies that integrate culturally relevant texts and instructional approaches. Her holistic approach ensures that literacy development is not only skill-based but also culturally resonant, fostering a deeper connection between students and their learning journey.
